Modeling Coastal Environmental Change and the Tsunami Hazard

چکیده

The hazard from earthquake-generated tsunami waves is not only determined by the earthquake’s magnitude and mechanisms, distance to earthquake area, but also geomorphology of nearshore onshore areas, which can change over time. In coastal assessments, a changing environment commonly taken into account increasing sea-level projected values (static). However, changes other climate-change impacts influence entire system causing morphological near- (dynamic). We compare run-up same suite tsunamis barrier island-marsh-lagoon-marsh for statically adjusted dynamically sea level bathymetry. Sea-level projections 2000 2100 are considered. dynamical adjustment based on morphokinetic model that incorporates along with impacts. employ Representative Concentration Pathways 2.6 8.5 without treatment Antarctic Ice-sheet processes (known as K14 K17) different projections. It important note we do occurrence probability earthquakes. Our results indicate dynamic case approximately three times larger than static case. Furthermore, show nonlinear complex responses climate profoundly hazard, caution sensitive less well-studied rise.

Modeling Tsunami Sources and Their Propagation in the Atlantic Ocean for Coastal Tsunami Hazard Assessments and Inundation Mapping along the U.S. East Coast

Numerical simulations are performed to develop tsunami inundation maps for the U.S. East Coast (USEC), as envelopes of surface elevations caused by the probable maximum tsunamis (PMTs) in the Atlantic Ocean basin. These PMTs are triggered by various sources, identified from historical records or hypothetical, including : (i) near-field submarine mass failures (SMF) on or near the continental sh...

Tsunami hazard assessment in the coastal area of Rabat and Salé, Morocco

In the framework of the three-year SCHEMA European project (www.schemaproject.org), we present a generic methodology developed to produce tsunami building vulnerability and impact maps. We apply this methodology to the Moroccan coast. This study focuses on the Bouregreg Valley which is at the junction between Rabat (administrative capital), and Salé. Both present large populations and new infra...

Mass transport events and their tsunami hazard

Mass transport events, such as those from submarine landslides, volcanic flank collapse at convergent margins and on oceanic islands, and subaerial failure are reviewed and found to be all potential tsunami sources. The intensity and frequency of the tsunamis resulting is dependent upon the source. Most historical records are of devastating tsunamis from volcanic collapse at convergent margins....
